Live music loving Brixtonites are spoilt for choice on Sunday nights, with several excellent jazz and reggae nights taking place in town – and they’re all free!
One of longest running live jazz nights in Brixton can be found at the Effra Hall Tavern on Kellett Road.
The SOFF Music crew have been performing on Sunday nights for nearly 18 years now, and the jams remain as much fun as ever.
Starting around 8.30pm, the live music goes on till 11pm, and the house band are fantastic.
High kicking dancers.
Closing time at the Effra Hall Tavern.
Starting at 6pm but running much later (usually till 1 or 2am), the Grassroots jam night at the Bar 414 on Coldharbour Lane is a fairly new addition to the scene but it is already proving very popular with locals. It’s also the latest place to get a drink on a Sunday night.
The music covers jazz and reggae classics with musicians invited to join in, and the house band is led by UB40 trumpet player Patrick Anthony with Lance Rose (Bass) Maurice Brown (Guitar) Bukky Leo, Bammi Rose, Sara Tobias ( Sax) Gary Williams & Saleem (Drums) and vocalist George Kelly in attendance.
Here’s some photos from our last visit. It’s a great place to wrap up the weekend!
