Whether you love it or hate it, the recently opened American themed sports bar’BXT Frat House’ on Brixton Road was refurbished and rebranded specifically for sporting events and isn’t short of a good screen or two. The Dogstar has long been a cornerstone of Brixton’s nightlife with party DJs packing the place out every Thursday, Friday & Saturday night. It has a big downstairs bar with a massive screen that will show most big footy matches and other main sporting events. The Duke is a massively popular back street boozer with a huge garden, comfy sofas and a pool table. It’s got a good range of real ales and big screens for sport. This traditional back street pub on the corner of Kellet Road is one of the best places to watch sport in Brixton. It has two big screens on either side of the bar with friendly locals and a great atmosphere whenever there is footy or horse racing on. This former Conservative Club on Effra Road was taken over and re-opened by Antic in 2013. It retains most of its original features and character and has quickly established itself as another popular Brixton favourite with varied DJ nights, a Pub Quiz and a good selection of ales from local breweries on tap. Another fine traditional local Brixton boozer, Elm Park Tavern is a quite a bit off the beaten track and all the better for it. Gran Union pubs are all much the same, glitzy cocktail bars set in old traditional pubs with swanky decor & the bar prices to match. The one thing that sets this Brixton (almost Clapham) boozer apart from its peers is the huge & lovely beer garden which boasts a mega outside screen to match and tree houses. Hootananny is another stalwart of Brixton. A big pub with a good sized stage and pool tables at the back. It hosts live music five nights a week from Wednesday to Sunday with an international blend of Roots, Reggae, Rock, Indie, Jazz, Punk & anything else that tickles their fancy. Pop fields, Pop Brixton, 49 Brixton Station Rd SW9 8PQ
Opening just in time to scoop up the heavy drinking football crowds, Pop Fields has been built in a new space adjacent to Pop Brixton, off Station Road. Pop Fields in Pop Brixton offers a ‘Summer Of Sport’. The new space will be showing all the international sporting events throughout the summer – including the Rio Olympics, European Football Championships, Wimbledon and the Tour De France – with the usual not-so-cheap booze and food on offer http://www.popbrixton.org
Whirled Cinema 259-260 Hardess Street, Loughborough Junction SE24 0HN
Loughborough Junction’s fantastic independent cinema is tucked away in the railway arches of Hardess Street. They kick off Euro 2016 with Wales v Slovakia and continue with England and Russia this evening. White Horse 94 Brixton Hill, Brixton SW2 1QN
The White Horse on is one of the oldest pubs in Brixton and probably the busiest boozer on Brixton Hill. Wired up for weekends, they host popular DJ nights on Fridays and Saturdays and stay open until 3am.
