On Saturday 4th July, many pubs in and around Brixton finally reopened their doors after 103 days in lockdown, with the day hyped up by the press as ‘Super Saturday.’
Brixton Buzz contributor Ria Hylton covered a lot of ground around South London on the night to bring this snapshot of the night:

Ria told Buzz:
Below are a series of photos taken of bars and pubs in and around Brixton between 8pm and 10pm on Saturday.
It’s clear that, though punters struggled to keep to the 1 meter rule, July 4th wasn’t the debauched affair many were expecting. The cool weather may have played some part in this, as well as the recent spike in London’s ‘R’ rate.
Many venues had strict social distancing measures in place, such as The Effra Tavern and The Commercial who kept their numbers very low.
Tulse Hill’s Railway Tavern seemed relatively busy in comparison but directed customers to use the pub app for table orders and collected a contact list of punters as they entered. Very impressive.
The Agile Rabbit, which was closed months before the lockdown came into force, also collected contact details and seemed busier than ever, whilst Off The Cuff, which has been selling take-away booze for some time now, continued to attract a nice outdoor crowd.
The Hootananny, Herne Hill’s The Half Moon and The Two Brewers on Clapham High Street wouldn’t allow for photos – but do share any photos you managed to capture/come across as we’d love to get a sense of the vibe at these locations.
